The Princess Sharpie 22

The Princess 22 is a classic small sharpie at 22 ft length over all. It features the versatile unstayed Cat Ketch rig, features full sitting headroom below with options for various cabin layouts depending on your desires.

The Princess is a large boat in a small package, easily trailerable at just 1900 pounds displacement (plus equipment and gear), but suitable for weekend duty as a coastal cruiser. The long waterline and v-bottom improves handling and performance, and yet, this is the ultimate shallow water gunk-holer: you can beat to windward in just 12" of water.

The Belhaven 19

The Belhaven at 19 feet presents a wee bit boxier overall look but has an excellent interior layout in stock mode and is a real boon for people desiring maximum accommodations in a small space while not sacrificing sailing performance. You can see more pictures of the Belhaven at the naval architect's site, B & B Yacht Designs.

Both boats feature offset centerboards so that the cabin accommodations are not imposed upon.

Both boats feature tabernacled unstayed masts for ease of set up at the launch and both can accommodate mizzen staysails to induce sail envy in boats being passed.

The cabin space between the two boats are very close, the biggest difference between the two -- besides aesthetics and a little better sailing potential with the Princess -- involves the use of an outboard motor.

The Princess can accommodate an outboard in an aft motor well just in front of the rudder. (the motor tilts up in well when not in use.) This puts the rudder in the prop wash giving excellent directional control and keeps the motor fully submerged in heavier seas.

The Belhaven features a outboard motor bracket on the transom to allow shorter length over all of the boat.

Both of these boats are fairly low weight in order to economize on required towing vehicle. Both could happily be hauled with a Mini Van if equipped with optional Trailer Towing package.

An often asked question is "How much will this design cost me?"

I guess one could as easily ask "How long is a piece of string?" All boats are custom built to clients particular desires. I charge $30.00 an hr and cost of materials used plus 10%. Depending on level of finsh desired, deviations and customizations away from plans, and marine systems desired final cost can vary tremendously. A spartan Belhaven could start in the low 20's A Spartan Princess might price out in the mid to upper 20's , both in sail away trim. Motor and trailers extra and F.O.B. Lewiston Maine. And of course we are willing to do partial builds for customers who wish to complete their boats themselves for cost savings.
